OUR HISTORY
Oregon Disability Sports began 1971, then known as Oregon Games for the Physically Limited, as an effort to create an outlet or opportunity for people with disabilities in the Salem area to recreate and compete in athletics. In 1982, we became a federally recognized not for profit organization. Since then, we have undergone numerous name changes as we tried to find the right place for us in the sporting world…… In 1993 we changed our name to Oregon Games, Inc, then, in 1996, we became Oregon Games Disability Sports and in 1998 we changed our name to what we are now-Oregon Disability Sports.
For years we ran what was called the Challenge Games up and down the Willamette Valley. As the need for these games diminished, ODS has worked to evolve and develop into an organization that continues to work to give people with physical disabilities opportunity to participate in physical fitness activities and competitions.
As our name has changed and the programs that we support have evolved, two of our sevices have continued: The ODS Resource Guide and our Quarterly Newsletter. These are both two outlets that we use to get all types of information out to our members and people in the community interested in disabled sports..
