PROGRAMS

KEEP ON MOVING!

Keep On Moving! is a program designed to introduce and support continued involvement of individuals with physical disabilities in wheelchair sports, fitness and recreational opportunities, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle.

We introduce 4 wheelchair sports on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month.  From June through September this program will be held at Portland Community College-Cascade campus ion their gym.  The sports being introduced are:  wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis and handcycling.  We have the athletes and equipment to give you a good introduction to these sports.

BASKETBALL

JUNIORS AND ADULTS!

We have partnered with Portland State University this year and we have open gym for basketball play for all ages on Saturdays from 10-1 pm.  This is  at PSU's new student  recreation center.  We currently have a youth and adult team and we are always looking for more players!  Contact Trisha if you are interested in playing!

A big thanks to our basketball program sponsors:  THE MULTNOMAH ATHLETIC FOUNDATION

ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT FUNDS
ODS has established an Athlete Development Fund Program to benefit athletes/teams who are training and/or competing at local, state, national and international levels.  Participating athletes/teams can raise money and accept funds from individuals and organizations for training and competition expenses.

PERSONAL EQUIPMENT GRANTS/COMPETITION SCHOLARSHIPS
Personal equipment grants:  These grants are provided by the Marilyn Koski Memorial Fund, and are available to ODS members.  Grant typically range from $20 to $100.  Criteria include:  financial need, diligence in training in sport of choice, value of the equipment in helping meet athletic goal.  Applications are reviewed in January, April, July and October.
Competition Scholarships: To request a scholarship, you must be a member of ODS, compete in at least one ODS sponsored event if available in the particular sport and if applying for regional, national or international competition, keep a training log to be reviewed by the Sport Committee. Maximum scholarship is $100.

ANNUAL SPORTS BANQUET
We have hosted an annual Sports Banquet to honor those athletes that have taken it upon themselves to compete at the highest of levels and succeed.  These sports banquets began in 1992, have been on hiatus the past couple of years, but we have great plans to bring them back.
Thanks to The Mulnomah Athletic Club, we will be hosting our Annual  Sports Banquet on Sunday, November 1st, 2009 again this year.

ODS RESOURCE GUIDE
Our resource guide is used by people with disabilities, and by professionals who help people with disabilities, to find the sport/activity specific program that they are looking for.  This is an asset to the entire community.  We update it as often as we can and we are always looking to add new organizations onto it.
